Examination Committee
This committee is tasked with conducting examinations on behalf of the Council .It is also involved in establishing Quality assurance mechanisms for the exams that it conducts from time to time.Currently there 2 exams that are carried out annually.
- Eligibility exam-This is done prior to anyone commencing internship. It serves 3 main objectives. First, it acts as a preparatory exam which bridges academic knowledge versus practice requirement and enables students to be adequately prepared for the internship by aligning their focus on practice issues. It assesses their basic knowledge in Pharmacy. Secondly, it is a quality assurance tool through which the Council evaluates the Pharmacy curriculum being implemented by the various tertiary institutions and enables the council provide feedback on areas of improvement. Lastly, it helps to curb any cases of forgeries by unscrupulous persons who haven't undergone any training in Pharmacy. This helps to save the profession and thus the public from unqualified persons. The exam is conducted 4 times a year and based on need.
- Pre-registration exam-this is done after successful completion of internship and serves to prepare the interns for their lives as practicing Pharmacists. It assesses both knowledge and skills. This exam is conducted twice a year.It is the main exam for admission into the society and registration as a Pharmacist.
Education Committee
This committee is tasked with ensuring Continous Proffesional development(CPD) courses of members and persons working in Pharmaceutical enterprises. It conducts 3 CPD courses annually for Pharmacists, 1 CPD course for Medical representatives and 3 CPD courses in Various regions for Pharmacy auxiliary staff. The education committee is currently developing an online CPD course module and webinars(videoconferencing seminars) for its members.
Research Committee
This committee is involved in conducting research on various issues that influence Policy, the Profession and the practice.It is currently undertaking a research project by FIP(International Pharmaceutical Federation) on early detection and referral of TB cases in Jinja district.It has a series of subcommittees through which it carries out its activities .These include a herbal research subcommittee that is currently focusing on traditional medicines ,a university research subcommittee that provides support to undergraduate students to carry out research in their 4th year of study in Makerere and Mbarara Universities and an operational research sub committee
Editorial Committee
This committee oversees the publication and dissemination of various pieces of information through the media to the public .It currently runs a series of publications and media campaigns. Presently, it publishes the Annual Uganda Pharmaceutical Journal for health professionals, the quarterly Medicine Today publication that sensitizes the public on drug matters and spearheads the monthly rational drug use Radio campaign in an English and another Luganda broadcasting radio station .It is also tasked with developing and updating the content on the societies' website. It is currently working on a drug information service for the public via sms and conceptualizing a TV talk show on rational use of medicines.
Standards Committee
This is tasked with setting standards for practicing in the country.It currently has one publication on standards of Pharmacy practice and is in the process of developing accreditation standards for training institutions for Pharmacy students and various other categories of Pharmacy auxiliary staff.It is also in the process of preparing standard operational procedures for Pharmacies.
Building Committee
This is tasked with handling the Pharmacy house project.The society is in the process of putting up a multistoreyed block to house its offices ,training centre,drug information resource centre,research laboratory and recreational facility on its 1 Acre plot of land near Ntinda,Kampala.
